Simple Tips To Get Your Home Ready To Sell

Simple Tips To Get Your Home Ready To Sell

So you are ready to sell your home.  That's great!  Here are a few tips that will help you, as well as your Realtor, get your home ready to put on the market.  And to help you sell it that much faster.

1.  Pack away personal items:

Packing away some of your stuff is one of the simplest, and cheapest, things you can do to sell your house quickly.  Prospective buyers won't be able to picture themselves in the house if they are surrounded by dozens of photos of your children and grandparents.

2.  Clear away clutter:

Decluttering the home is another simple way to get buyers to focus on the bones of the house.  This is one of the easiest, yet hardest things for people to do because they are emotionally attached to everything in the house.  Clutter collects everywhere, and as homeowners, we get use to seeing it.  What I recommend is removing items from countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms. As well as putting things in boxes and neatly stacking them in the corner of the garage.  If needed, rent a storage unit. Not only will this make your home easier to show, but it will make moving out of your home into your new on that much easier!

3.  Rearrange and neutralize rooms:

Rearrange the rooms in your home to reel in prospective buyers.  Make sure each room has a distinct, useful purpose.  If your home has been painted recently, consider yourself ahead of the game.  If not, take a paint brush to the rooms that need it most.  Sellers who paint the interior of their home will see a large return on the investment.  Using fresh, neutral paint on the walls, trim and doors will make everything appear clean and new.

4.  Scrub and deodorize:

No one wants to look at a dirty, smelly home.  So make sure that your home shines from top to bottom.  The goal is to help buyers imagine themselves living in the home.   When a potential buyer walks into an unkept home or smell something when then first walk in, they become turned off immediately and can rarely see past it to look at all the great features of the home.  I suggest having the house professionally cleaned so that everything is spotless.  I also recommend backing cookies in the oven, bringing cinnamon sticks to a slow boil in a pot of water or using air freshener to mask smells before each showing. Also, if you have cats, getting rid of the litter box is a must.

5.  Enhance curb appeal:

Whatever you do, do not overlook the home's exterior!  Curb appeal is just as important as cleaning the inside of the home.  You only have one chance to make a first impression.  Mow the lawn, make sure the sidewalk and driveway are free of clutter and debris.  If you have to, pressure wash the exterior of the home, driveway and sidewalk.  And remember, mulch is your friend.  Put fresh mulch in the flower beds where you can.  It makes everything look trim and neat.
