As a realtor, I hear this question a lot. Especially if the home buyer has school age children. Or are thinking of starting a family. What school system the home is in can be a major deciding factor to putting an offer in on a home.
Because of this, as a perspective home buyer, you need to know one very important piece of information. The MLS isn't always correct when it comes to schools!
We try to make sure the information is correct, but the truth is, school zones can change from year to year. A home that was zones for one specific school this year, may change to a different school the next.
That's why as educated home buyers, you need to contact the school district itself if your decision to purchase is dependent upon what school you go to.
Let's just take Holtville High School in Elmore county as an example. There is no city of Holtville. The school is fed by the surrounding rural area. But here is where calling the school district is important. Holtville High School has homes from both Deatsville and Wetumpka zoned for it. And parts of Deatsville is zoned for Millbrook schools. And when you are searching for that perfect home, you could be right on the line.
So please, as an educated home buyer, make sure before you put an offer in on that new home, that you call to see what school system your new home is in. All it takes is a quick phone call and the address.
